The Lion is located towards the top end of Broad Street in the centre of Blaenavon. Blaenavon is a small heritage town in the North of Torfaen.

The Lion is easily accessible via car, bus from Newport and Brynmawr routes or Taxi. The nearest train station is located in Abergavenny (6.7miles).

Car parking is available on Lion Street at the rear of the building, the surface is tarmac and level.

The main entrance to the Lion is a short walk from the rear car park to the front of the building. Exit the car park on Lion Street turn left and follow the pavement, slight decline, around the corner onto Broad Street past the first door, continue slight incline, on Broad Street for approximately 13 yards, the main entrance is on your left through the main door into the internal porch leading to the bar/lounge area. The main door is manually operated and has a standard threshold. Reception is on this level at the right end of the bar.

There is a rear entrance accessible from the car park. Go through the gate, up a single step; turn left follow the level path, 3 steps, around the right corner onto the smooth decking to the double doors. The rear doors are manually operated with a standard threshold.

There is also an exit on the corner of Broad Street and Lion Street, as you exit the car park on Lion Street turn left and follow the pavement, slight decline, to the corner of Broad Street, the door is up 1 large step on your left. This door is only used occasionally and is generally left locked; it is manually operated and has a standard threshold.

The Lion has no ground floor accommodation, 8 first floor en-suite bedrooms and 4 second floor en-suite bedrooms. From the bar/lounge area there are 3 steps down to the restaurant which leads to the main staircase, the first floor is up 17 steps and the second floor up a further 16 steps. The stairs have a handrail on the right-hand side ascending and balustrade on the left hand side ascending.

The Lion offers 4 room types; Classic Double, Executive Double, Deluxe Double and Twin/ Family rooms. All rooms have bedside lamps, a range of storage at various heights, remote controlled flat screen TV’s with DVD players, desk and chair, hair dryer, tea and coffee making facilities, alarm clock, ironing facilities, adjustable hot and cold fan assisted heating and free Wi-Fi.

Rooms 202, 208 and 302 have slipper baths with shower attachments while the remaining rooms have walk in shower trays and screens. All sinks, showers and baths have lever taps and there is good colour contrast between the walls and bathroom suites. The shower heads are adjustable, there are no shower seats. The bar/lounge located on the ground floor and offers various sofas, tables and chairs which can be re-arranged to suite individual or group needs. The bar/lounge is well lit with ample manoeuvring space. The ground floor male, female and disabled toilets are accessible from the bar/lounge area. The male toilets contain 2 urinals a WC and a vanity unit with sink and lever taps. The female toilets contain 2 WC’s and a vanity unit with sink and lever taps. The disabled toilet contains a WC, sink with lever taps, grab rails and has ample room to manoeuvre. All areas are well lit and there is a good contrast between sanitary ware and other surfaces.

The breakfast room is located on the ground floor next to the lounge, 3 steps down. The room is well lit and has ample room for manoeuvrability. Dietary requirements can be catered for, with advance notice to be discussed on booking before arrival.

The wellness suit is located on the lower ground floor accessible from the main stairwell there are 14 steps down from the ground floor. The wellness suite contains a heated relaxing room, heated mosaic loungers, chairs, massage facilities, water feature, separate changing facilities, sauna and steam room. Changing facilities include WC’s and sinks with lever handles, manoeuvring room is limited.

• Lion Hotel operates a no smoking policy. A charge of £50 per incident is enforced for extra room cleaning.
• All staff are trained for evacuation and guest procedures can be found on the rear of all bedroom doors.
